I'm a rock chick in a hard rock world!

So I've seen MI2 like half a dozen times, but I still get the damndest knots in my stomach when I watch Cruise rock-climbing. How can you not: it's so real, even when you know it's well, not. :P I think I'm one of the very few people who still like him, though. And that's kind of sad. He's still very cool, and let's not forget thisOn the other hand, the new The Mentalist ad on Zee Cafe makes me really happy. I cannot find it on youtube, but I did find a Sad Song

In updates, I watched Gangs of Wasseypur yesterday. They're right; it's brilliant. It's a celebration of awesome. It's a complete saga, it leaves nothing out, and is very entertaining. Shout out to Sneha Khanwalkar, who's the music director - apparently one of only three female music directors in Bollywood - for a supremely fantastic job.

I read a biography of Aamir Khan by Christina Daniels called :I'll Do It My Way". It's good; it's short, doesn't linger on controversial things, covers everything and praises him too. But I felt it didn't really justify its title. It doesn't make him out to be as much of a non-conformist genius or an individualistic self-made dude as might be expected from the title. But then he's probably not like that at all.

Now I'm reading Bertrand Russell. Book is called Marriage and Morals. It's about the change in society from matrilineal to patriarchal and how women's subjugation became necessary to maintain the latter. It's quite informative in the sense of very gently explaining how society changed and how it can be modified. I don't know if the book caused a stir then, but now it seems like a very padded blow. Then again, he was neither a feminist nor an anthropologist.

Okay now I'm going to listen to Jarrod Radnich on repeat.

P.S. The title of the post - one of the things that made Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara  so fun. :)

Of typos and plans

Folks!

I'm home. And getting used to typing on the ghar ka keyboard. I miss letters in between words, and I've to keep checking my spellings. I skipped the 'm' in the third word I typed here. 'Folks! I'm hoe' - would have seriously increased my traffic, though. :/

Anyway, so I'm going to be bored and all now. I always come up with a lot of plans for holidays, never have I once, however, even started on any one of them, however bored I may have become. General holiday inertia. But this time, I'm going to do the following things. Pakka.

1. Re-join dance classes.
2. Finish A Brief History of Time.
3. Read Not Without My Daughter, Redeeming Love, and more fiction.
4. Make random craftstuff. I've found blogs and sites on how to make your own notebooks and stuff, and being the environmentalist that I am, I have sheets of paper saved from old books. Most solid plan so far.
5. Swim.
6. Watch a lot of movies. Start with X-Men first class and Hanna.

I just had a discussion with my mom about Bollywood songs aajkal. After a while, after listening to Bhaag D.K. Bose three times, she said 'kalyug hai'. Discussion over. :P But, she mentioned how my nana would always refer to people as D.K. Bose when he wanted to abuse them. Just showing you our ancestors weren't all that golden. :P

Uh .. Again?

It's that time again, when final exams are near and studying seems impossible. One would think we'd get bored of leaving everything till the last minute, and prepare early just ONCE, see what it feels like, you know, but our obstinacy knows no bounds.

I've said this before, and I'm saying it again; I can't believe I've spent a whole year in college: this college, this hostel, with these people, in this place. I'm soon going to be a grown-up senior, in second year, probably seem intimidating to my juniors, and people still in school, and yet I have no sense of how so much time went by. How, and where.

Life's been kinda decent. Political science ka project finally khatam hua. Exams from 6th. Party on 10th. *wink*

Nothing great, but nothing bad either.

The cooler's blowing in my face, and I can feel my heart-shaped pillow under my elbow. It's hot outside, and tense in. It's two o'clock; I should be studying. I've just realised, through talking to others, that I don't care about most stuff. It's like this perfect detachment, or indifference, whichever you like, to most things. Food, marks, social circle, clothes, all these things that people spend so much energy over. I don't quite know if that is a good thing or bad. What I do know is that it's always been like that; I've always been like that. I now get what my dad meant when he said I wasn't ambitious; it's like I don't have that drive that makes people do stuff, work hard, achieve, envy, even. It's weird.

Oh also, I read The Wandering Falcon, by Jamil Ahmad. It's set in Pakistan and Afghanistan. It's mainly about the shift of civilisation from nomadic cultures to settled townships. It is a series of stories, many stories, many people, and yet there seems to be this continuity, this thread that links everything in your mind, and you can't quite identify it. It's probably not as great as Thousand Splendid Suns, but the story has this easy flow to it; it's not heavy and laced with emotion. The emotion is laced under every simple line, an emotion that stays with you, even though you don't quite realise you're that involved in the story. It's beautiful.

Anyway, back to studies now. Turrah!

The Boar of Boredom

As you may have noticed, I've suddenly got into photography. Actually, its not sudden at all. I've always had some kind of strange fascination for pictures and for people who took nice pictures. :)
But I could never break the inertia and actually take the camera out and click. However, now that I have nothing else to occupy my mind, I thought, I have a great camera (okay, maybe not really, but that's not important), I have a great mind *wink*, I have time, and I can see. What more does one need to take photos, right?

So I have started, let's see where I end up. Whether this remains a mere amateurish interest or becomes more, I cannot say now, but I'm having fun at the moment and that's all I really care about right now.

Also, I went and watched Badmaash Company today. Shahid Kapoor is irritating, but the rest are okay. Its a very typical Bollywood film with a message and all, but okay entertainment. So I'm not complaining. More importantly, I bought Unexpected Blessings, and so will end the series Woman of Substance by Barbara Taylor Bradford that I deeply loved. I got the God of Small Things too, by Arundhati Roy. Will give reviews once I finish.

For now, that's it.
Cheers to a great time reading!

Veritas

I'm listening to the same
new songs on the radio
while acting unconvincingly
that I'm studying;
'rate of population growth', 'job creation targets' ..

(Don't say alvida ... )

Two weeks left, I tell myself
Down from a month. Down from a year!
Its no more a put-off-able eventuality.
Its on my head:
Right here. Right now.

(Na kaho alvida ... )

My mom doesn't want me to leave Delhi.
I'm waiting to leave. Doesn't seem so likely now.

(Aj din chadeya ... )

I wonder if its true,
When most people say they miss home
when they leave.
I doubt I will. I'm known
to myself to be quite un-sentimental.

I'm not missing school either.
Or the 'friends'.

(Zinda hoon main ... )

This life of inertia pleases me.
They say I'm not ambitious.
But I am: I don't want
to work; hard or otherwise. (Doesn't that count?)

(Aj dil gustakh hai ... )

I want to be at my leisure. Always.
I want the security of a routine. Of
free time.

(Chidiya ghar se pakde hain ... )

Edging out rivals was never my thing.
Sometimes most things aren't.
Sometimes most things are.

I look at the calendar.
Two weeks left!

(Wake up Sid ... )

*Switches off radio*
*Opens a book*

oncoming nostalgia

Hey there again
At this point of my life, I'm really nowhere. Its a period of seemingly un-ending waiting. waiting for the board results, waiting for the entrances to start, and also waiting for my mom to go out somewhere, so that I can watch tv a little more guiltlessly. preparation, is as usual heading nowhere; although I'm really pleased with myself today for going through half a book. But talking to strangely more serious people threatened to burst my bubble; but only just :)

Yesterday, I cleaned out my secondary cupboard. I had been postponing it, but got down to it at 2 in the morning (yes, I'm nearly nocturnal). Anyway, so I found these amazing things, which I of course knew existed, but had never really Really noticed! I'm sure that sounded strange, but then, risking a cliche, facts are stranger than fiction, right. I found old sequined very pretty clutches, a birthday gift I had never seen after after that day, and my old uniform. I also found my Kuchipudi ghungroos (bells); which I used to do when I was a child. They're like Kathak ghungroos (different from my present Bharatnatyam ones), two long thick strings of two rows of bells. I put them on immediately, and was reminded strongly of the hall where I learnt, my teacher who I've not seen since over 6 years, and the general delights of being young and free from responsibility. My life now presents such a contrast to my life then! But then, I must not sound like I have regrets; because most certainly I do not. However, I was forced to take them off too early for my liking, because well, simply because my neighbours wouldn't take it too well to be woken up by funny sounds from the house above.

Oh also, I'm so hopelessly in love with Taylor Swift's 'Breathe'; I cannot not sing it all the time. Underlined by Colbie Caillat's deeper vocals, it is so liltingly captivating! I also read Pride and Prejudice again. It seems so fresh and new even if you remember every line. I am such a fan of Jane Austen! (Although that may seem very out of character for me, because I mostly read thrillers)

And I've totally reached my saturation point with IPL; I kid not, I cannot stand another match. And my favourites - the Delhi Daredevils have lost the last three consecutively, making this condition only worse.

Till next time, chill out and keep it stylish!

P.S Sorry for that last part, I wanted to, just once, say that. :P
